BUCKSTONE

About three miles to the South of the City Centre, Buckstone is a highly popular residential area. Its proximity to the by-pass makes it ideal for the commuter with speedy access to the M8, M9, Edinburgh Airport, the Forth Road Bridge and Fife. There are regular bus services to and from the City Centre.

Buckstone is well served for schools, falling within the catchment areas of Buckstone Primary School, Boroughmuir High School, while Firrhill School and the private school of George Watson's College are all nearby.

There are good local shops, a Bank and a Post Office in Buckstone Terrace. There is also a large Safeway Superstore at nearby Failmilehead and the substantial shopping area of Morningside is about 5 minutes away by car.

Bordering upon Buckstone, the Braid Hills offer superb opportunities for recreation with their two public golf courses, open parkland and excellent views over the City. The neighbouring Hermitage of Braid and Blackford Hill provide good walks.

The golf courses of Mortonhall, Lothianburn and Swanston are all within easy reach as is Hillend
Ski-Slope, the longest artificial Ski-Slope in Europe. The Hillend chairlift is not exclusively reserved for skiers and will deposit walkers at the top, to enjoy the many hill-walking trails of the Pentland Hills.

BALERNO

On the South-west outskirts of Edinburgh, the village of Balerno is a highly popular residential area in a prime location for the commuter. Regular buses serve the six-mile route to the City Centre, while the recently built City of Edinburgh By-Pass provides fast and convenient access to the M8, M9, Edinburgh Airport and the First Road Bridge, as well to all points South and East of Edinburgh. There is a generous provision of unregulated parking throughout the village.

Balerno is well served for schools, both Dean Park Primary School and Balerno High School being situated within the village. Balerno also falls within the catchment areas of the Roman Catholic Schools, St Cuthbert's Primary and St Augustine's High.

The village offers an interesting variety of shops, a Bank, a Post Office and a couple of good pubs, while there are some excellent restaurants nearby. Balerno Public Library is situated in Main Street and other local services include a garage, a dentist and a health centre in nearby Currie.

Balerno borders upon some of the most attractive parts of the Pentland Hills, a popular weekend retreat offering a variety of walks and superb views over the City. There are accordingly endless opportunities for hillwalking in the area, while several golf courses including Baberton and Dalmahoy, are situated nearby. Balerno Village has its own bowling club and Dalmahoy Country Club lies just over a mile away.
